The Tower Hamlets Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education
At Mowlem, Religious Education topics are taught in accordance with the New Tower Hamlets Agreed Syllabus (2017-2022). The new syllabus, which has been created by the SACRE (Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education) and its Agreed Syllabus Conference, builds on strengths of previous syllabuses and provides a vision of, and the basis for, the development of RE over the next five years.
The syllabus intends to provide the structures and support systems that will enable the teaching of RE in a manner that is coherent, progressive, pedagogically and philosophically sound, and that will promote the cognitive, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all learners.
The principal aim of RE is to engage pupils in systematic enquiry into significant human questions which religion and worldviews address, so that they can develop the understanding and skills needed to appreciate and appraise varied responses to these questions, as well as develop responses of their own.
